OKLAHOMA CITY –
The Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives has approved State Representative Jason Murphey's request for an interim study to continue to look at ways to modernize Oklahoma's purchasing processes.
Murphey authored and won approval for House Bill 3325 during the 2008 legislative session after an interim study that found millions of dollars of savings could be realized from modernizing antiquated purchasing process. House Bill 3325 allowed for significant cost saving technological advances to take place in the state's invoicing and procurement processes.
Murphey said House Bill 3325 was a good first step but much more remains to be done as part of the modernization effort. He hopes the second interim study will lead to new legislation that will continue the effort.
"I am a firm believer that we must cut taxes in Oklahoma in order to do the right thing for the people and in order to compete for economic development. In order to position the state to cut taxes it is vital that we modernize the antiquated government procedures that are costing the taxpayers millions of unnecessary tax dollars," Murphey said.
